Plessner. Biology, philosophy and a question: What is man?

Reading Group of the Doctoral School in Philosophy and Human Sciences

2015-2016

Plessner. Biology, philosophy and a question: What is man?

Convener: Roberto Redaelli

The reading group proposes to read the first systematic philosophical work about the organic constitution of living being and, especially, of man: Die Stufen des Organischen und der Mensch by Helmuth Plessner. With this work, Plessner offers an introduction to philosophical anthropology and tries to answer to the kantian question: Was ist der Mensch?

The original answer of Plessner, which develops the concept of eccentric positionality,  and its modernity will be analysed during the reading group.
